Reusable half mask respirators for dust, gas and vapour
A half mask respirator covers the nose, mouth and chin and seals against the face, leaving eye protection to goggles or a visor. It is the practical choice wherever exposure is regular rather than occasional: the facepiece is cleaned and reused and only the filter is replaced, so running cost falls sharply against single use masks on any job lasting more than a shift.
Two things decide the protection you actually get. The first is fit, which follows the seal material and the size. Silicone and thermoplastic elastomer facepieces stay flexible, tolerate sweat and clean easily, while rubber suits heavier industrial duty.
The second is filter class, matched to the hazard: P3 for fine dust, fibres and welding fume, gas and vapour cartridges for solvents, acids, ammonia and formaldehyde, and combination cartridges where both are present. Confirm the mount is compatible before ordering filters, and remember that facial hair on the sealing line defeats any tight fitting mask. For short exposure a disposable mask may be enough; where the eyes need the same protection, step up to a full face mask.
